2025-2026 Concerts - Our 44th Season
Shared Breath, Shared Song
In December, Cantemus will perform three concerts of sacred music from various world religions. “Shared Breath, Shared Song: Sacred Music Across Faiths” features a rich variety of choral music representing Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Sufism, Buddhism and Hinduism.
From Rachmaninoff's “Bogoroditse Devo” and Duruflé's “Ubi Caritas” to a Hebrew “Prayer Before Sleep”and an Islamic chant, “Zikr,” the chorus will wrap their tongues around Russian, Latin, Hebrew, Arabic, Urdu, Sanskrit, Spanish — and English.
The anchor work, the “Misa Criolla” of Argentine composer Ariel Ramírez, combines the folk music traditions of the indigenous peoples of South America with the forms and practices of Western art music. We will be joined by a guitarist, three percussionists, and tenor soloist Josaphat Contreras (https://www.josaphatcontreras.com/).
Mark your calendars for December 7, 13, and 14 in Newburyport, Swampscott and Gloucester, respectively.

A Salute to The Great American Songbook
with guest artist Miranda Russell and Friends
Cantemus will help celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with an all-American program centered on the Great American Songbook.
Our special collaboration with jazz-pop-folk vocalist and local celebrity Miranda Russell (https://mirandarussell.com/) and her combo will include first-rate choral arrangements of songs from George Gershwin and Irving Berlin to Judy Collins, including some new arrangements crafted for Miranda and Cantemus to perform together!
Set aside May 2 and 3 for this celebration. We’re sure you’ll be tapping your feet and humming along!
